What is 'skimming'?
Skimming is the process of applying a very thin (usually 3mm) top layer of finish plaster to create a smooth, durable surface, often done over new plasterboard or old, sound plaster.
How long does plaster take to dry?
Drying time varies greatly with air flow and humidity, but it can take between 3 days to over a week. The plaster must be completely dry before painting to avoid problems.
Can you plaster straight onto brick?
Yes, but it requires an undercoat plaster, like bonding plaster or hardwall plaster, to provide a thick, strong base coat before skimming.
